flash-back

We've been taking the inside of the packing case out to make a chicken house today. It's been quite hard work, involving lots of swearing, finding odd bits of stuff to lever other bits of stuff; and gratuitous hammering at things whilst holding them down with our feet:

Me [wielding crowbar and micro-adjuster* ]: B*gg*r! B*st*rd! B*ll*cks! Come out, you bloody thing!
B [wielding chisel and thoughtful expression]: This is reminding me of putting together a Stan's Cafe show. It's giving me the yips. I think I'll go and put the kettle on.

* Large claw hammer

  1. Oh dear, I can picture the scene so clearly when he puts it like that. Still, at least you won't have to pack it all up and do the same thing again tomorow in Sheffield, and the day after that in Warwick...

  3. Isn't it wonderful the amount of therapeutic "adjustment" one can inflict with a claw hammer? I would recommend the additional use of a well-placed size 8 (in my case) boot. Of course, the profanities are an essential part of any such undertaking

  5. Yes, the profanities are very important, you can't complete a job without them.

  7. I find that cursing on the 'in' breath helps.

  9. OK I know who Stan's Cafe are (saw them at the BAC some time ago) but I've been away from your husband long enough to lose track of the vocabulary somewhat. What are "the yips", and are they related to tea any more than everything else in the UK is?

  12. Oh wow! I just saw the pic of the packing case in question further down the page. It looks wonderful and as you say you can imagine an escape plan being hatched (geddit?!) from the barracks. Watch out for secret tunnels under bunks!
